TikTok is marking a major milestone by making its first donation of an open source project to an open-source software foundation. ManaTEE, a Data Clean Room platform built on Trusted Execution Environments (TEEs), will now be part of the Linux Foundation’s Confidential Computing Consortium (CCC). ManaTEE, a cutting-edge Data Clean Room platform built on Trusted Execution Environments (TEEs), is designed to meet the increasing need for secure, AI-driven data collaboration, addressing critical challenges in data privacy and security.

The evolution of ManaTEE

ManaTEE was originally launched as an open source project in June 2024 as PrivacyGo Data Clean Room, a secure data collaboration platform built to address TikTok’s internal needs. By combining privacy-enhancing technologies with the security of TEEs, ManaTEE allows for privacy-preserving data collaboration across industries, whether it’s for trusted research, marketing analytics, or machine learning.

Why open source matters

For TikTok, open source has been a key driver of innovation. Contributing to and building on open source projects accelerates development across the tech ecosystem. ManaTEE's transition to an open governance model under the CCC will further accelerate its development and adoption, benefiting the wider community.

Empowering the Future of Data Collaboration

ManaTEE's core use case revolves around secure and trusted data collaboration frameworks. ManaTEE's core capabilities include:

  • Secure Multi-Party Collaboration: Enabling multiple parties to collaborate on data without compromising privacy.
  • AI Training with Private Datasets: Providing a secure environment for training AI models on sensitive data.
  • Accurate Data Analytics: Providing tools necessary for accurate data analytics without compromising privacy.

By donating this project to the CCC, TikTok aims to empower a broader community to develop secure data-sharing solutions across industries. The open governance model will foster a vibrant ecosystem of contributors who can enhance the project with new features, improved security, and more use cases.

Join the ManaTEE Community

We encourage developers, researchers, and organizations to join us in our open source efforts. ManaTEE’s success relies on a collaborative ecosystem, and we’re excited to see how the community builds on its strong foundation. About the Confidential Computing Consortium

The Confidential Computing Consortium (CCC) is a community within the Linux Foundation dedicated to defining and accelerating the adoption of confidential computing. It embodies open governance and open collaboration that has aided the success of similarly ambitious efforts. The effort includes commitments from numerous member organizations and contributions from several open source projects. The foundation is governed by a neutral governing board and technical advisory council (TAC).
