To support the UK Day of Action, TikTok joined the UK government, City of London Police, National Cyber Security Centre, and National Crime Agency to advance the "Stop! Think Fraud" campaign.

The initiative aligns with TikTok's ongoing efforts to build trust and amplify our commitment to encouraging people to #BeCyberSmart. Specifically, by working with public and private sector leaders, we aim to help amplify adoption of security measures like two-step verification (2SV) to help protect users and disrupt criminal activity, such as account takeovers.

Account Take Over (ATO) attacks—up 24% in 2024—rank as the top cybercrime reported to the UK's Action Fraud, posing a $12B+ annual threat globally.

To help drive awareness of account takeover prevention, TikTok has taken the following steps:

  • Launched a new Level Up @TikTokTips series video showing users how to activate two-step verification through their in-app settings
  • Sent in-app push notifications encouraging UK users to adopt two-step verification
  • Unveiled a new Account Security Checkup In-App Tool to empower global users with smarter account security choices
  • Published the latest edition of TikTok Facts, an ongoing series on our privacy and security practices, focusing on scams and fraud

To learn more about how to recognize scams and frauds online, we routinely publish resources for our community:

Our global community is encouraged to report suspicious activity to agencies like Action Fraud (UK), FTC / IC3 / ITRC (US), ACSC (Australia), and Europol or INTERPOL.
