TikTok was thrilled to sponsor and participate in Open Source Summit North America 2024. The event was a remarkable opportunity to engage with the open-source community, share our innovations, and learn from other industry leaders.

Here are four key takeaways from our experience.

1. Witnessed enthusiastic developer engagement with TikTok's technology

We were delighted to see such a strong interest in our technology and open-source projects around privacy. The enthusiasm from developers who visited our booth and attended our session was inspiring. Many attendees expressed their appreciation for our research and development and were eager to learn more about how they could get involved in our open-source project: Privacy Innovation. This level of engagement reaffirms our commitment to developing open-source solutions that resonate with and support the developer community.

2. Increased traffic to our GitHub projects and social media

Our presence at the summit significantly boosted traffic to our Privacy Innovation GitHub projects. We saw a notable increase in stars, forks, and contributions, demonstrating that developers are eager to collaborate on our open-source initiatives. Additionally, our social media channels were abuzz with shares and mentions, amplifying the reach of our projects. This heightened visibility not only drives our projects forward but also fosters a more collaborative and innovative community.

3. Experienced strong participation in our Applied Cryptography talk

Our technical session on Using Applied Cryptography to Enhance Privacy was a standout success (watch the recording here). The audience's engagement was palpable, with many attendees asking insightful questions and expressing interest in PETAce's applications. This feedback underscores the importance of our work in advancing secure and private data exchange solutions.

4. Observed popularity of our branded swag among attendees

Our branded swag and shirts were a hit! Attendees loved our creative designs, and it was a joy to see so many people wearing TikTok gear around the conference. This may seem like a small detail, but it highlights the value of building a strong, recognizable brand presence at industry events. Our swag served as a fun and memorable way for attendees to connect with TikTok.
