General Launch Approval Process

Before you can launch your app, your organization must complete pre-launch tasks, providing details about your company and its data usage:

  • All organizations must complete a general launch approval request form, which applies to all launch regions.
  • Organizations planning on launching an app to the U.S. must complete an additional U.S. launch approval request and data security agreement. Learn more about the app launch process for the U.S.

This process allows TikTok to ensure that vendor relationships remain secure, legally sound, and aligned with our obligations under regional laws and internal standards. Your participation is essential to maintaining a trusted partnership.

Pre-launch tasks

Pre-launch tasks are completed at the organizational level. To access them in the Developer Portal:

  1. Go to the Business tab of your organization page on the Developer Portal.
  2. Click the Pre-launch tasks tab to find the compliance tasks.

All organizations must complete the general launch approval request. Organizations planning to launch mini apps to the U.S. must complete additional tasks.

  1. Submit the general launch approval request: Once approved, you can launch your app to all regions except the U.S.

  2. Submit the U.S. launch approval request: This is a separate compliance step that assesses U.S. data security requirements.
  3. Complete follow-up requests if needed: If your responses indicate potential compliance risks, you will receive follow-up requests for additional information.
  4. Sign agreement: After your request has been approved, you must sign a data security agreement for your scope to take effect.

Warning: All submissions are final. Once you submit a questionnaire, your responses cannot be modified, recalled, or resubmitted online. If you made a genuine mistake, contact the TikTok Operations team for assistance.

General launch approval request

The general launch approval request is a general compliance questionnaire that applies to all developers intending to launch a mini game or mini drama in any region. Request approval unlocks launches to all regions except for the U.S., which requires additional information.

General launch questions

The general launch approval request consists of the following questions:

  1. Company website
  2. Will you use industry-standard encryption to protect TikTok/ByteDance data when it is stored?
  3. Have you had any security breaches or data leaks in the past 3 years?
  4. Which countries will you store the company’s data in?
  5. Which countries will the company’s data be processed or accessed from?

Review statuses

  • Approved: You may launch your app to all regions, except the U.S. If you plan on launching in the U.S., you must complete an additional request and agreement.
  • Rejected: You will not be allowed to resubmit online. The rejection reason will be displayed in the Developer Portal. Contact the TikTok Operations team if you need further assistance.
